D Francesco Lopes’ künstlerische Recherche wird vom Studium des Lichts und dessen Wirkung auf den Menschen im sozialen, kulturellen und religiösen Kontext geleitet. Konkret untersucht er die religiösen Prozessionen und Rituale in Syrakus und davon ausgehend die Bedeutung der Mutter. Seine Arbeit zeigt die Prozession zu Ehren der heiligen Lucia zur Zeit der Wintersonnenwende und die Karfreitagsprozession, bei der die „madonna addolorata“, die Schmerzensmutter, von Frauen getragen wird.
In der Dunkelkammer entstehen analoge schwarz-weiße Unikate auf gebrauchten Stoffen.
E Francesco Lopes‘ artistic research is inspired by the study of light and its effect on people in the social, cultural and religious context. Specifically, he examines the religious processions and rituals in Syracuse and, against that background, the significance of the mother figure. His work presents the procession in honour of Saint Lucia at the time of the winter solstice and the Good Friday procession, at which the madonna addolorata, the mother of sorrows, is carried by women.
In the darkroom the artist creates analogue, black-and-white monoprints on used fabrics.
