D The Conversation ist eine Ausstellung mit Werken von Harkeerat Mangat (*1990, Vancouver, Kanada) und Thomas Feuerstein (*1968, Innsbruck). Sie ist das zweite Kapitel einer dreiteiligen Ausstellungsreihe, in deren Rahmen die Kuratorin Pia-Marie Remmers Künstler*innen einlädt, eine Position aus dem Programm der 1977 in Innsbruck gegründeten Galerie Thoman für eine gemeinsame Ausstellung auszuwählen. Das erste Kapitel fand von 18. 5. bis 28. 7. 2023 in Wien statt und brachte Werke von Devin Kenny und Franz West zusammen.
Die Arbeiten von HARKEERAT MANGAT sind mit äußerster Sorgfalt geplant und beschäftigen sich zugleich mit Themen und Materialien, die sich jeglicher Vorhersagbarkeit entziehen. Beeinflusst durch seine Praxis als klassischer indischer Musiker, organisiert er seine Filme, Gemälde, Zeichnungen und Ausstellungen wie Partituren, die erst durch ihre Interpretation zum Leben erwachen. Seine Aufmerksamkeit gilt Prozessen der Wahrnehmung und des Denkens, sowohl den eigenen als auch denen seiner Kollaborateure und des Publikums.
THOMAS FEUERSTEIN nutzt in seinen Arbeiten chemische und biologische Prozesse, um ökonomische, soziale sowie historische Zusammenhänge zu erkunden. Seine Skulpturen und Installationen greifen die Dynamik von Netzwerkstrukturen auf und erinnern in ihrer Gestaltung und Materialität an Labore oder groteske Forschungsstätten. In ihnen erscheint die Welt als umfassender Organismus, in dem alles potenziell mit allem anderen in Verbindung gebracht werden kann.
E The Conversation is an exhibition presenting works by Harkeerat Mangat (b. 1990, Vancouver, Canada) and Thomas Feuerstein (b. 1968, Innsbruck). It is the second chapter in a three-part exhibition series, in the context of which curator Pia-Marie Remmers invites artists to choose a position from the programme of Galerie Thoman, founded in Innsbruck in 1977 for a joint exhibition. The first chapter took place from 18 May to 27 July 2023 in Vienna and brought together works by Devin Kenny and Franz West.
The works of HARKEERAT MANGAT are meticulously planned and deal with subjects and materials that evade all predictability. Influenced by his practical experience as a traditional Indian musician, he organises his films, paintings, drawings and exhibitions like musical scores, that come alive only through their interpretation. His attention focuses on processes of perception and thinking, both his own and that of his collaborators and the audience.
In his works, THOMAS FEUERSTEIN uses chemical and biological processes in order to explore economic, social, and also historical correlations. His sculptures and installations seize on the dynamics of network structures and in their composition and materiality remind us of laboratories or grotesque research facilities, where the world appears as a comprehensive organism in which everything can potentially be linked to everything else.
