Eine neue Fassade für das „Bischofshaus“ in Innsbruck: Führung mit Bischof Hermann Glettler und Künstler Martin Walde

D Bis vor Kurzem hat man es dem im Kern mittelalterlichen Gebäude am Domplatz nicht angesehen, dass hier der Innsbrucker Bischof seinen Sitz hat. Nun erhielt das Haus im Zuge der Sanierung eine neue Fassade, mit deren Gestaltung der für seinen Kunstsinn bekannte Bischof Hermann Glettler den renommierten Konzeptkünstler Martin Walde beauftragt hat.
Basierend auf dessen Entwurf zieht sich großformatig „1.1.0“ über die gesamte Breite der Fassade, eine Ziffernfolge, die zum einen Bezug auf den Beginn der christlichen Zeitrechnung nimmt, zum anderen auf das Geburtsdatum, das bei Asylsuchenden ohne Papiere mit 1. 1. und dem geschätzten Geburtsjahr eingetragen wird.
Hermann Glettler und Martin Walde präsentieren das in traditioneller Sgraffito-Technik umgesetzte Kunst-am-Bau-Projekt, das gesellschaftspolitische Fragen aufwerfen soll.

E Until recently, one would not have assumed, looking at the building on Domplatz, in its core reaching back to medieval times, that this was the residence of Innsbruck’s Bishop. Now the house, in the course of its renovation, has received a new façade, whose design, at the behest of Bishop Hermann Glettler, known for his appreciation of art, was conceived by the renowned conceptual artist Martin Walde. True to his concept, the building now bears the huge inscription “1.1.0” across the entire width of its façade, a combination of numbers which on the one hand refers to the beginning of the Christian calendar, and on the other to the birth date entered for asylum seekers without papers, January 1st, plus the estimated year of birth.
Hermann Glettler and Martin Walde present the art-in-architecture project, executed in traditional sgraffito technique, which aims to raise important socio-political questions.
