Vina Yun im Gespräch mit Nina Tabassomi

D Vina Yun spricht mit Nina Tabassomi, Direktorin des TAXISPALAIS und Kuratorin der Ausstellung „die Wissen“, über den autofiktionalen Comic Homestories, in dem sie die Geschichte der koreanischen Diaspora in Österreich erzählt. Die koreanische Arbeitsmigration in den 1970er-Jahren bleibt bis heute unsichtbar und ungehört im österreichischen Geschichtsnarrativ. Gemeinsam mit mehreren Künstlerinnen macht Vina Yun diese Geschichte, die die Erfahrungen unterschiedlicher diasporischer Generationen umfasst, in einem populären Format zugänglich. In dem während der Ausstellung „die Wissen“ ausgestellten Comic-Ausschnitt konnten wir sehen, wie mehrfache Zugehörigkeiten nicht als solche gelesen und Betroffene damit beständig mit Alltagsrassismus konfrontiert werden.
Im Rahmen der Premierentage ist im TAXISPALAIS Kunsthalle Tirol außerdem die Ausstellung „Ich bin anders, weil ich kann das. Stranger belongs to me” (26.10.23 – 21.01.24), kuratiert von Nina Tabassomi und Vazira Fazila-Yacoobali Zamindar, mit Arbeiten von Bani Abidi, EsRAP, Aziz Hazara, Lucas Odahara und Setareh Shahbazi zu sehen. Sie ist der abschließende Teil der Trilogie zu Fragen des Zusammenlebens und darüber, wie wir Diskurse um mehrfache Zugehörigkeiten in Westeuropa adäquater denken und praktizieren können, zu der auch „die Wissen“ gehörte.
E Vina Yun talks to director of the TAXISPALAIS and curator of the exhibition “die Wissen” Nina Tabassomi about the auto-fictional comic Homestories, in which she relates the story of the Korean diaspora in Austria. The Korean labor migration of the 1970s remains invisible and inaudible in the Austrian historical narrative until this day. Together with several artists, Vina Yun makes this history, which comprises the experiences of various diasporic generations, accessible in a popular format. In the comic excerpt presented in the context of the exhibition “die Wissen”, we could see how multiple belongings are not recognized and accepted as such, and how the affected persons are therefore constantly confronted with everyday racism.
In the framework of Premierentage the TAXISPALAIS Kunsthalle Tirol will also show the exhibition „Ich bin anders, weil ich kann das. Stranger belongs to me” (October 26, 2023 – January 21, 2024), curated by Nina Tabassomi and Vazira Fazila-Yacoobali Zamindar, including works by Bani Abidi, EsRAP, Aziz Hazara, Lucas Odahara and Setareh Shahbazi. It is the concluding chapter of the TAXISPALAIS trilogy on togetherness, tackling the overarching question of how we can discuss and practice discourses of multiple belongings more adequately in Western Europe, of which „die Wissen“ was the second part.
