Die raumgreifenden Skulpturen von Neda Saeedi artikulieren unsere Gegenwart mit Präzision und Emotion. Kulturelle Landschaften als in Form geronnene Gewalt werden von Saeedi durchdacht verformt und rücken uns nahe: Prächtige Kirchenfenster positionieren sich zu einem bedrückenden Altar des ausbeuterischen Europas. Das Monument of Oblivion organisiert in einem Jetzt der Denkmaldebatten, unzureichender Vergangenheitsbewältigungen und aktueller Faschismen den Schutt in einem Kreislauf – Schutt der Gegenwart oder Schutt der Vergangenheit? Es ruckelt, es pocht – wie lange können die Gefäße halten? Kontrastierend verwandelt sich die Halle des TAXISPALAIS in einen Garten, der imperial und kolonial die Natur tot in Schach hält. Für in fire yet we trust, Neda Saeedis erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung in Europa, hat die Künstlerin herausfordernde neue Arbeiten geschaffen: Hoffnung? Gibt es nicht. Aufgeben? Keine Option.

Neda Saeedi’s extensive sculptures articulate our present with great precision and emotion. Cultural landscapes, as violence taking shape, are cleverly deformed by the artist and brought home to us. Glorious church windows here come arranged into an oppressive altar for exploitative Europe. Fragile arrangements made of glass by way of overhead projectors turn the walls into flaming canvases. The so-called Monument of Oblivion, against a current backdrop of debates on monuments, an insufficient dealing with the past, and re-emerging fascisms, organises the rubble in a cycle – rubble of the present or rubble of the past? There’s a juddering, a throbbing – for how much longer will the vessels hold? In contrast, the big hall at the TAXISPALAIS turns into a garden, that imperially and colonially holds dead nature in check. For in fire yet we trust, Neda Saeedi’s first solo exhibition in Europe, the artist has created a number of challenging new works. Hope? There is none. Giving up? It’s not an option.
